May Goals

May's goal for A Lovely Year of Finishes

My niece and nephew (twins) are graduating from high school.   I offered to make them each a quilt for their graduation gift.  Their open house/party is on the 30th.  So my one goal must be 2 quilt tops.  I can't have only one.

My plan is to complete   the tops by the 30th.  Then quilt and bind by the time they go to college   in the fall.

I thought they would want T shirt quilts with their high school  shirts.  But they both wanted quilts for their dorm rooms.

One is going to Ball  State.  One to Ferris State.  College quilts it is.

Linking up!

April Goal Complete

Red Licorice  top is completed.  Down to the last day but completed for my April goal.  Took this picture in the fading   sunlight and between gusts of wind.

This was paper pieced.  Then the diamond shaped blocks were joined with Y seams.  These were new techniques for me and I have learned much while working on this.

I really was unsure of trying this.  But a dear quilt friend  encouraged me to do it.  So glad I did.  It looks great and I am glad I challenged myself.

It finished at 34 X 34.

I am linking to the April  finish party at A Lovely Year of Finishes at  fiberofallsorts.blogspot.com.  I am #95 at the goal setting party.

Here are a couple  of in process  pictures.

April & 2nd Quarter Goals 2015

April is the beginning of the 2ND quarter and time for goal setting  at Fiber of All Sorts for ALYOF goal for April.

Though I did not complete Red Licorice in March, I did make great progress.  I completed all of the paper piecing.

Assembling  the top involves  Y seams.  So that is my goal  for  April.  Completion of the top.

Then my second quarter  finish goals include:

1.  Completing Red Licorice.

2.  Completing my lone star.
This was pieced 6 years ago at the first retreat I attended.  It is basted and ready to quilt and bind.

3.  Complete my Santa redwork.  We are doing some traveling  in May.  This redwork  will be a great travel project and then add borders, quilt and bind by the end of the quarter.

4.  My husband's  mother will be moving from her home of 55 years in Chicago to an apartment  in Minnesota closer to family.  I think she needs a new quilt for her new home.  I pulled out 4 projects that were in various  stages  from just a pattern to pattern  and fabric pulled to a wip.  He chose this WIP.  This is a Marti Michel block of the month I started about the same  time  as the lone star.   The move is planned for July.  I would really like to surprise  my husband by completing the quilt this quarter.

I also have 2 graduation gifts and 2 charity projects to work on.  Sew I have plenty to keep me busy.

Join the fun at On The Windy Side for 2015 quarter  2.

March goals

I just saw the new Dove soap commercial.  It may have been out for awhile but this is the first I recall seeing it.   It has dominoes lined up with the negative things women tweet about themselves.  You know ...I'M fat, ugly, too short, too tall.  My photos are too dark, too light.  My fmq isn't very good.  You get the picture.

I also read a post about things  quilters should not do.
Most importantly  was to not compare to others.  Be inspired and learn.  Enjoy the process and enjoy where you are in your quilting journey and development .

I tend to  be  an optimist.  I usually   think I can accomplish  more in a given amount of time than is realistically  possible.  So that being said.  .......

This is my March ALYOF goal.

32 diamonds with 57 pieces each.  I have 13 pieces on each.  44 to go on each.  I have been intimidated  by this project.  It is on my list for 1st quarter finish a long and I  have not worked on it any this quarter.  So this is now my goal  for March.  32 paper  pieced diamonds completed, sewn together  in a top, sandwiched, quilted and bound.

Making progress. At a retreat and now have 25 pieces on.

Keep sewing.

February 2015 goal

1

San Antonio  Tree.  This was  my finish goal  for  January  2014.  It was so close to completion.  But I didn't  make my goal.  Stalled and set it aside.

February is a short month.  This only needs trimmed and binding .   The binding  is ready as I  am using  leftover  from another quilt.  San  Antonio  Tree  is officially   my February  2015 finish goal for A Lovely  Year  of  Finishes.

January Finish

It is finished.  Quilted, bound and ready to snuggle.  I started this quilt at a retreat in March 2013.  I have worked on it at 2 Other retreats.  So glad I decided to make it my January project.  Having  a deadline kept me working away at it.  I finished the binding this morning.  My dh was unwilling to help with outdoor  pictures this morning.  So these indoors pictures with  the sun streaming through  the  windows  will  do for now.

Smokey River.  My January  finish   for A Lovely Year of Finishes with Melissa and Shanna.

The day has  turned gray and  we are expecting snow.  3 to 6 inches...6 to 12 inches...10 to 20 inches.  The predictions keep increasing.  That is ok.  I have food in the freezer and plenty of quilt projects to keep me busy.  I can get a start on my February project.
